Hapless Victim

Why is mama always sad, every time i see her sobbing by the side;  the many things that go on inside, and i ask, where is dad?

Amayah is a sad little girl, an only daughter amongst sons; all the chores her job to do, while her brothers, with toys they play

With tears in her eyes daily she would watch, boys playing about on their way to school; this heap of laundry she must tend, helpless as can be

Wishing school could be for girls too, Amina never stopped crying, every time wishing she could be a boy; how to read and write, badly she wanted to learn.....

It is quite an unfortunate situation. But what really have we done wrong? We didn’t choose to be this way, we didn’t create ourselves. What has the society turned us into? Why this rather glaring unfair relegation?

From childhood we are told how to behave, that our position is ‘underneath’ and that always we must submit.

They call us weak, pushed us to the brink, ‘tied us up’ so we couldn’t compete, making us feel like we are not complete.

How unfair have they been, acting all so mean. Like trash they threw us into the bin. Oh! But we are still human beings

After taking away our strength; every time reminding us never to bring our head up; Again they expect us to strong,  Oh! but they are so wrong

Women are kings, kings who deserve every iota of respect; yes equal opportunity for all, so we have heard, the words  of the western world
